The Basics
- Level: Intermediate
- Used Photoshop CS2
- Translatable: All photoshop versions, not PSP compatible
1) Copy you're base and set it to screen. For this icon I kept the opacity at 100% but if your base is too bright then lower the opacity to your liking.

2) Add a Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer and increase the Saturation, I used +20 but it may depend on your base.
Result:
3) Now's the first of many Selective Coloring Layers! *Note* make sure the method is set to 'Relative' NOT 'Absolute'.
Reds: 0, 0, +35, 0
Yellow: 0, 0, 0, -40
Neutrals: -10, +10, +20, -40
Result:
4) 2nd Selective Color Adjustment Layer
Reds: 0, +50, 0, 0
Yellow: 0, +60, 0, 0
Magentas: 0, +60, 0, 0
Neutrals: 0, +35, 0, 0
Result:
5) 3rd Selective Color Adjustment Layer
Reds: -100, 0, 0, 0,
Yellow: 0, -100, -70, 0
Neutrals: +30, 0, 0, 0
Result:
6) 4th Selective Color Adjustment Layer
Reds: +60, +30, -15, 0
Neutrals: +100, -25, -25, 0
Result:
7) New curves adjustment layer, go directly to Reds (no RGB!) and make a small-ish arc, it should look like this. Set to Pin Light.
Input: 88
Output: 150
Result:
9) 5th, and last, Selective Color Layer.
Neutrals: +100, 0, 0, 0
